The Hope That Change Brings
I came into this project thinking that I was going to be shooting strictly documentary photos; I was very mistaken. I got to the halfway point of the documentary work and realized that I hated it; I felt no passion or love for the photos I was making. It was at that point, I realized that I needed to pivot; I knew that I wanted to continue shooting cityscapes, however I wanted to show them in a more fluid light. I wanted to show that they were ever-changing, and that change is what kept them afloat and what gave hope to their future. Changing the project also gave me hope in that it reignited my passion for photography. I decided at that point that I was going to begin making photos that highlighted change in cities, and I made them less identifiable as change is a common theme for most cities in the U.S. and the world.
With this project, I want to show that change is not something to resist, and it could be something that brings hope to people. Many people are resistant to change, and I hope that my project makes people see that being open to change and being fluid can be a very good thing.
